5 Rockin’ Side Hustles You Should Consider this Holiday Season!

If you’re looking for some creative ways to bring in extra cash this holiday season, check out these five fun side hustle ideas!

The end-of-year holiday season will be here before we know it. As homeschooling parents, the holidays are always full of extra opportunities to help our children explore and make memories. There is seemingly no end to the special light show exhibits, theatrical productions, and community events that become available to us (homeschool co-op gift exchanges, anyone?). But let’s face it - these extra opportunities often come with an extra price tag! Whether for admission tickets to an event or gasoline to actually get there, a little extra money to fund our “fun” is always nice to have. If you’re looking for some creative ways to bring in extra cash this holiday season, check out these five super fun rockin’ side hustle ideas!

1. Host a holiday S.T.E.M. day for kids! Who doesn’t love getting their kids geeked out about science, technology, engineering and math? Start by researching a few simple projects you can confidently teach to kids. (Holiday-themed projects such as D.I.Y. snow, glitter slime, or gumdrop and toothpick building challenges are fantastic ideas to feature.) Decide on registration costs and set a date that the parents in your community are comfortable with. Depending on your event location, you could offer separate registration fees for parents who want to drop off their kids and return later. Get the word out early! Decorate your event space, including a selfie wall for parents and kids to take pictures holding their completed projects! Fun!

2. Sell “Mommy and Me” Products - Don’t just think of the actual products. Think of how you can help others create memories! Examples would be: matching aprons for baking holiday treats together, matching beauty masks for getting in some spa time and matching gratitude journals for recording things they are thankful for this year. This idea is easily adaptable for “Father-Son” products!

3. Host a baking class! The only thing better than eating amazing baked holiday treats is learning how to make them yourself. If you are skilled in the area of whipping up baked delights, you might consider hosting a class (or two) for those interested in learning some of your tips and tricks. Advertise your class, offer early bird discounts, prep accordingly, and have fun!

4. Host a handmade jewelry night! If jewelry-making is your thing, consider hosting a “make-and-take” style night. Have friends and family preregister (tip: hold a contest to give away a gift card to the participant that brings the most guests with them). Gather supplies and set a date. Include a fashion show during the event with your fashion savvy friends as the models wearing your handmade jewelry! Have a display table for additional pieces that participants can purchase while there! Fun, fun, fun!

5. Organize a caroling crew! This idea is a personal favorite! Gather some friends who like to sing (or even rap), choose some cool songs to learn, and schedule bookings! In a time where the tendency is to isolate as a society, most people will be delighted to see a modern caroling group show up at their door! Take your caroling to another level by adding custom details that will give your customers that extra special experience! Offer special discounts for slower booking days and “bundled” bookings!

The opportunities abound for earning extra during the holidays. With a little creativity and an attitude to readily serve others, you’re sure to see a great return on your investment, have some fun, and rock your holiday in the process!
