I’m a Teacher. Here Are 5 Ways I Make Money From My Educational Content.

When I first started teaching online in 2017, life looked very different.

At the time, I had three young children. Before they woke up each morning, I would get up early and teach from 5:00 to 10:00 AM—seven days a week.

Those early mornings weren't just a preference—they were a necessity.

My children usually woke up around 8:00 AM, and I couldn't count on having someone to watch them or keep the house quiet while I was teaching. I constantly worried that a child interrupting one of my classes could affect my ratings or even cost me my teaching job.

So I built my schedule around those quiet hours before they woke up. From 5:00 to 10:00 AM, I taught as many classes as I could, knowing that every morning mattered.

Looking back, it was a stressful season, but it also motivated me to start thinking differently. I began asking myself, "How can I create educational resources that continue helping families—even when I'm not teaching live?"

That question eventually led me to create self-paced courses, digital resources, curriculum, and books that have transformed the way I work today.

I loved teaching, but it also meant trading my time for income. If I wasn't teaching, I wasn't earning.

Fast forward to today, and our family has grown to five amazing children. I'm incredibly thankful for those early years because they taught me so much, but I'm even more grateful for how my business has evolved.

Today, live classes are no longer my primary source of income.

Instead, my self-paced courses have become my #1 income earner, followed by the other educational resources I've created over the years.

That shift didn't happen overnight. It happened because I stopped thinking of every lesson as something I could teach only once and started asking a different question:

"How can this lesson continue helping learners?"

That one question completely changed the way I create educational content.

1. Teaching Live Online Classes

Live classes are where it all began for me.

There's something special about interacting with students in real time, answering questions, playing games, and celebrating those exciting "aha!" moments together.

Even though live classes aren't my largest source of income today, they'll always have a special place in my heart because they gave me the foundation to build everything else.

2. Self-Paced Courses

This has been the biggest game changer for my business.

Today, my self-paced courses are my largest income stream.

Instead of teaching the same lesson over and over again, I can record it once and allow families to learn whenever it works best for them.

Parents appreciate the flexibility, students can pause and replay lessons, and I can continue creating new content without having to be live every hour of the day.

It's one of the reasons I can spend more time with my family while still helping learners around the world.

3. Selling Digital Educational Resources

Every worksheet, printable, lesson plan, game, or activity I create has the potential to help another teacher or homeschool family.

Rather than letting those resources sit unused on my computer, I make them available through multiple platforms, including Teachers Pay Teachers, Nuggets of Wisdom, Teach Me Truth, and Classful.

Each platform reaches a different audience, and together they allow my educational resources to reach more families than they would in just one place.

4. Publishing Physical Books

Recently, I reached a milestone I had dreamed about for years—I published my very first phonics book.

Holding that finished book in my hands reminded me that one educational idea can take many different forms.

That same content can become a physical book, printable activities, video lessons, online classes, and supplemental curriculum.

One idea can continue helping learners in many different ways.

5. Repurposing Educational Content

This may be the most valuable lesson I've learned over the years.

Every time I create something new, I ask myself:

"How else can I use this?"

A phonics lesson can become:

A live class
A self-paced course
A printable workbook
A physical book
Video lessons
Reading activities
Curriculum
Digital downloads

Instead of constantly creating something brand new, I focus on making the most of what I've already built.

You Don't Need Hundreds of Products

Many educators think they need an entire store full of resources before they begin.

You don't.

Start with one lesson.

One worksheet.

One activity.

One unit study.

One book.

One great idea can become many opportunities.

A Word of Encouragement

Looking back, I'm thankful for those mornings when I taught from 5:00 to 10:00 while raising little ones.

God used that season to teach me perseverance, creativity, and faithfulness.

But I'm also incredibly thankful that today my business looks different.

Because of the courses, books, printables, and resources I've created over the years, I now work fewer hours while reaching more learners than ever before.

For me, that's been one of the greatest blessings—not simply earning more, but having more flexibility to spend time with my family while continuing to do work I love.

Help one learner.

Then keep building.
