About Me

Hello everyone! I live near Cincinnati, Ohio with my sons who are 23 and 21, as well as my rising 10th grade daughter. This year, I completed my 16th year of homeschooling. My family enjoys sports, games, movies, and just being together!

My Qualifications and Experience

I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Cincinnati. Initially, I worked as a social worker for Child Protective Services until I retired to be a mom (the greatest job in the world). When my oldest was 5 years of age, I taught pre-k class. After that, I taught a variety of classes to homeschool students. Over time, I developed a passion for teaching writing and literary analysis. Specifically, I have been teaching full English composition and literature courses for over 6 years.

What is Different About Me

I have a son on the Autism Spectrum, another son with ADHD, and a daughter who finds everything easy to learn. I have homeschooled all 3 of them successfully while using very different methods for ALL 3 to achieve the same knowledge base and level of success. I understand the complexities of trying to figure out a new way to reach my child, as well as teaching students with varying ability levels in the same classroom. I will work to help every student reach their potential.

My Philosophy

I love seeing students grow in their abilities and confidence. I believe in students growing from “where they are.” Every student has unique gifts and abilities, and I encourage them to improve from whatever level they start at. Each assignment is aimed at opening up new ways of thinking and “unlocking the block.” I grade based on completed requested elements, while adding small suggestions for improvement. My mission is to help all students grow in ability and interest ranging from the one that cries over writing a sentence to the one that writes 3 pages too much on a 5 paragraph essay. I am always open to modifying homework assignments as needed.
