Two YouTube Science Channels That Won't Waste Your Time
It's easy to teach reading and writing (and even arithmetic!) at home without pulling out all the bells and whistles. But let's face it, as our kids age it's increasingly difficult to put together homeschool science experiments without making a mess, wreaking havoc, or turning the kitchen into a hazmat zone.
To help with your search for virtual science education, allow me to suggest a few YouTube channels I've stumbled upon that deliver quality content in engaging ways. Even if you already have an awesome curriculum, it's always nice to have supplemental material, a brain break, or even just something in your back pocket for days when homeschooling just isn't going to happen otherwise.
Veritasium
Theoretical, mathematical, physical, and perceptual – Veritasium seemingly covers all aspects of science; and it does it very well! Hosted by Dr. Derek Muller, a physicist, this channel has high production value and always seems to be well-researched and solidly executed and documented. Scrolling through the list of videos reveals multiple notes of thanks to subject matter experts, to whom the host takes time to reach out externally and verify information as he makes each video. Dr. Muller does a great job of posing interesting questions; going directly to the source to search for the answers; then documenting and sharing his hypothesis, process, and conclusions with the audience. These solid mini-documentaries will suck you into subjects you may not have ever suspected could be interesting.

Smarter Every Day
Host and creator Destin Sandlin – engineer, husband, and father of four – is an upbeat and positive breath of fresh air. It is obvious that he loves what he does. He seems to follow his own interests much of the time with the subjects he picks. But then he goes in depth and makes sure he really digs deep in his investigations before publishing his videos. Not just a one-man show, Destin often involves guests and does a lot of experiments on location, depending on the subject. In the course of his videos, Destin not only presents his findings, but also describes and shows his investigative process, serving as a great model for critical thinking, logic, and scientific method. Succinctly put, this channel is science done well! As an added bonus, each video ends with a scripture verse.
