Building A “Grand-Scription Box” as a Christian Grandparent

Are you a Christian grandparent looking for a unique way to build connections with your grandchildren?

In a day and time when individuals are becoming increasingly isolated, it’s more important than ever to work intentionally to build relationships with our families. This includes family members inside and outside of our four walls. If you are a Christian grandparent living apart from your grandchildren, have you considered the idea of creating a subscription box? Yes a subscription box! But not just any box - a “Grand-Scription Box”, to be exact!

A “Grand-Scription Box” is simply a regularly mailed box filled with personalized treats, gifts, and messages. It is a fantastic way to share your Christian values with your grandchildren. Grandparents can use this box as an opportunity to pass on family traditions and the like with the added element of anticipation! Consider the following steps for creating your ‘Grand-Scription Box” (Cue the confetti and cheers!)

Step 1: Choose a Theme for Each Month

Start by choosing an exciting theme for each month's "Grand-Scription Box." You can choose themes related to seasons, holidays, or family traditions. For example, you can have a "Fruit of the Spirit" box, a "Family History" box, or a "Season of Giving" box. Let your personal faith journey and values guide your choices and messages.

Step 2: Gather Supplies

Collect the materials and items you'll need for each month's theme. For a "Faith and Values" box, consider including a small Bible, a devotional book, Bible-themed crafts, or a letter about your testimony of salvation. For other themes, gather relevant items that reflect the values and messages you want to share. Check out these fun Bible Verse Coloring Bookmarks!

Step 3: Create Personalized Items

Homemade gifts are alway extra special because they carry a piece of you with them. Craft personalized items like handwritten letters, family photos, and perhaps a handmade craft or keepsake that resonates with the theme of the month. Your personal touch will make the "Grand-scription Box" unique and meaningful.

Step 4: Assemble the Box

Now it's time to put everything together! Arrange the items neatly in a sturdy box. You may also want to include a small gift or treat, like a jar of homemade cookies or a bookmark, to add an extra personal touch. Throw in some confetti, colored crinkle paper, or even bouncy balls. Think of ways to make opening the box a fun experience as well.

Step 5: Write a Heartfelt Note

In "Grand-scription Box", add a heartfelt note explaining the purpose and meaning behind the gift. Here's a sample note:

"Dear Piper and Kaiden,

We hope this 'Grand-scription Box' finds you well and happy. We’ve been thinking and praying for you and we want you to know that each item in this box has been lovingly chosen and crafted with you in mind. We want to use this special way of connecting and sharing these important aspects of our lives with you.

This month's theme is 'Bible Heroes’ Inside this box, you'll find a Bible and a devotional book to guide you on your spiritual journey. We've also included a few Bible-themed crafts to spark your creativity and deepen your connection to God’s Word.

But most importantly, we want you to know that this 'Grand-scription Box' is a way for us to build a strong and loving relationship with you. We cherish the time we spend with you, and even when we can't be together, we hope this box will remind you of our love and the values we hold dear.

We look forward to the months ahead, where we'll explore other themes like 'Family History' and 'Season of Giving.' Our goal is to create special moments, share stories, and strengthen the bonds that tie our family together.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon,

Nana and Papi!

Step 6: Personalize and Decorate the Box

Consider decorating the outside of the box with fun stickers, drawings, or a special message. Make the box as fun to look at as it is to open.

Step 7: Schedule and Send the Box

Create a schedule for sending the "Grand-scription Box." Depending on your preferences, you can choose to send it at the beginning or end of each month. Make a note of the delivery schedule and be sure to send the boxes on time.

Step 8: Get Ready to Hear the Cheers and Sweet “Thank You’s”!

Nothing’s better than hearing your grandchildren’s voices on the line after they recieve such customized gift from you.

So go ahead, pray, and think about what you can use to reach the hearts of your grandchildren. Then start building your box today!

Happy Boxing!
